Serenata de Los Andes: The Magic of Peru

Serenata de los Andes, ensemble created and conducted by Jean Pierre Magnet and produced by Parro Producciones, will perform the show “Serenata de los Andes: The Magic of Peru”, on November 10th at Frederick P. Rose Hall, Home of Jazz at Lincoln Center. Through a contemporary vision of Andean music, Magnet offers us a repertoire of own songs of exquisite sound and a vibrant music execution, promising a sonic journey through the most beautiful landscapes of the Andes of Peru.

Serenata de los Andes is a blend of instruments perfectly arranged in sections reuniting several regional music styles of the highlands of Peru. Seven saxophones emulating the sounds of Mantaro Valley, five panpipes dialoguing with the wind of the highlands, six violins as a unique Andean symphony element, the melancholic Andean harp, the guitar and charango and the percussion, element that confers each song solidness and strength of the Peruvian Andes.

This ambitious project is supported by the best percussionist of Latin rhythms. Alex Acuña, awarded as “Most Valuable Player” by the National Academy of Recordings Arts and Sciences (NARAS) and three-times Grammy nominee, agrees with Magnet on showing the world the richness of the Andean music, but this time, brought to the highest standard never seen before.

Serenata de los Andes goes further beyond a concert, aiming integration of ages, races, believes and traditions through music and embracing diversity. Thus, we find violinists from the National Conservatory of Music playing together with Gilder Castro, renowned Andean violinist in the strings section. Luciano Quispe, virtuous of the Andean harp, for many the best harp instrumentist of Peru who is in addition composer of beautiful “huaynos”. The saxophones section gathers together young musicians from different music trends, and in the guitar, Oscar Cavero, musician of impressive versatility who has accompanied the greatest Peruvian artists.

This project started in 2006 with the recording of the first studio CD and today, after 5 years of perfectioning the show, it is ready to move forward to conquer mayor cultural cities through its music.
