Univision Launches Radio App for iPhone

August 02, 2011 | By Leila Cobo

Listeners of Univision radio stations nationwide will now be able to access most of their local stations anywhere via the newly launched Univision Radio App for iPhone and iPod touch. Available on iTunes' App store, the app allows users to access 45 local Univision stations, which they can search for by name, city or genre.

The app's interface is in English and Spanish to specifically reach a broader audience.

Although there are countless radio apps available on the iTunes app store, Univision may be the biggest Spanish language media company to put together its offerings under a single umbrella. In addition, the App allows listeners to purchase songs they hear via iTunes.

"The launch of the Univision Radio App reinforces our continued commitment to lead the efforts in providing Hispanic audiences with high-quality content across all media platforms," says Kevin Conroy, president of Univision Interactive Media.

Executives at Univision and other Spanish language media properties have long noted that the U.S. Latin market is an avid consumer of content via all media platforms, including digital platforms. Earlier this year, Conroy told Billboard:

"At Univision, our goal is to make content ubiquitous so that users can access the information, entertainment and news content they seek whenever they want, from wherever they are. We are integrating new media across our content offerings."

In addition, at the local level alone, Univision has 70 online and mobile sites, including radio and television station sites.
