San Diego, CA (April 5, 2011) – Eventful Inc., the leading digital media company connecting consumers with live entertainment, movies, and local events, and Pantelion Films, the studio dedicated to bringing Hollywood films to the Latino movie-going audience announced today that they are giving high school students in twenty U.S. markets the opportunity to bring the red carpet premiere of the new film Go For It! to their school. The campaign marks the first time that Eventful has enabled high school audiences to determine the location for a movie premiere. The film starring Aimee Garcia and Gina Rodriguez opens on May 13th.
Eventful’s campaign taps into the true power of social media to introduce audiences to new entertainment content by converting online Demand into tangible offline events. Students have until May 2nd to log on to http://movies.eventful.com/goforit and Demand that their high school becomes the one to roll out the red carpet for Go For It! Participants can then tell their friends, classmates, and teachers to join in by spreading the word through Facebook and Twitter. The winning school will host the premiere and receive an appearance by members of the film’s cast.
Go For It! was written, directed, and produced by first time director Carmen Marron. The film represents the reality of socio-economically disadvantaged youth and addresses the societal issues they face while integrating the cool underground world of street dance. Based on the filmmaker’s experience as a street dancer, Go For It! was created to inspire urban youth to believe in their inner-strength and follow their dreams.
“I am thrilled this competition is connecting GO FOR IT! with high school students around the country and I hope audiences will take the emotional ride and still dance in their seats,” said Marron. “My wish is that GO FOR IT! will inspire students to dream big and realize that strength lies within their own spirits.”
Go For It! tells the story of Carmen, a good student with a bad attitude who lives for dancing in the underground clubs of Chicago. Her immigrant Mexican working-class parents want her to stay in school and get an education, her boyfriend wants her to move in with him, and her professor challenges her to audition for a formal dance school in California. Pulled in every direction, her dreams begin to fade and she is faced with the challenge of overcoming her fears.
“We’re excited to be working with Pantelion to give high school students the power to bring Go For It! and its cast to their school,” said Jordan Glazier, CEO of Eventful. “Allowing students to directly influence this exclusive event helps create an emotional connection to a great story that inspires young people to believe in themselves.”
Go For It! recently won 2010 “Audience Awards” at the Dances with Films Festival and the San Antonio Film Festival, in addition to receiving an “Honorable Mention” at the Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival. The film was an “Official Selection” at the Napa Sonoma Wine Country Film Festival, the HBO New York International Latino Film Festival, the Chicago International Film Festival, and the Boston International Film Festival.
Eventful’s “Demand it!” TM service helps a wide range of entertainment partners engage audiences by empowering fans to influence programming decisions, screening locations, cast appearances, and distribution in addition to giving them access to exclusive content, pre-sales, and other unique promotional opportunities.
