Writer: Don’t you Cinco-de-Mayo me!

Unless you have been hiding under a rock, you’ve seen the signs since mid-April: the flyers hanging in every store, the beer commercials on TV, the bars announcing their two-for-one tequila shot specials.

Without a doubt, Cinco de Mayo has entered American mainstream, and it doesn’t seem to be going anywhere. Wonderful, one may think: at long last, Latinos have reached national acceptance. This may even be a sign that America is moving towards becoming the true melting pot it’s always claimed to be.
